Munich, June 15, 2025 – When the Concours of Elegance Germany (CoEG) takes place on July 25 and 26 at Lake Tegernsee, some of the world’s most exclusive vintage cars will come together. These vehicles impress not only with their technology and design but also with extraordinary stories. Among the contenders for the prestigious Best of Show Award are several classics that represent the history of German automotive engineering.
One of the oldest vehicles at CoEG 2025 is a 1929 Mercedes-Benz 710 Supersport Roadster by Corsica, a car that unites German and British automotive culture. Its 7.1-liter supercharged inline-six engine produces over 200 horsepower, reaching a top speed of around 190 km/h—an impressive feat even today, nearly a century later. This Mercedes-Benz stands out with its unique bodywork, crafted by the British coachbuilder Corsica. It is also believed that the car’s first owner was Thomas “Scrap” Thistlethwayte, a racing driver among the legendary Bentley Boys. The award-winning 710 Supersport also had a cameo appearance in the 1935 British film Death Drives Through.
A true highlight among the classics is the 1938 Horch 855 Spezialroadster. Fewer than ten of these open-top beauties were ever built. Visitors at the Concours of Elegance at Tegernsee will be able to admire a prototype of the 855. With its 5-liter eight-cylinder engine and 120 hp, this luxury-class model was a symbol of technological progress and modern engineering at the time.
A rarity from Bavaria is the 1958 BMW 503 S, designed by the legendary Count Albrecht Goertz. Just over 400 units were produced, primarily for the U.S. market. This classic combines sporty technology with luxurious features: an upgraded aluminum V8 engine, BMW 507 sport suspension, dual exhaust system, and disc brakes ensure dynamic performance. With an electric convertible top and a new price of around 33,000 Deutsche Marks, the 503 represented a level of luxury that few could afford—it was even more expensive than a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL.
Another exotic from Bavaria is the 1985 BMW M 635 CSi, representing a significant era in BMW’s history. Introduced in 1984, the 2+2-seater continued the concept of high-performance inline-six engines originally defined by the legendary BMW M1. In the 1980s, the 285 hp M 635 CSi played in the top sports car league while embodying both luxury and comfort. The showcased model is in accident-free, unrestored original condition, with its factory paint still intact. It has frequently won its class and collected multiple trophies at various international concours events.
A super sports car dream that makes nearly every car enthusiast’s heart race is the Porsche 959, which debuted as a production model at the 1985 IAA. At the Concours of Elegance at Tegernsee, visitors can look forward to seeing a spectacular Porsche 959 S. Only 29 examples of this rare Sport version were ever made. Compared to the standard 959, the output of the twin-turbocharged flat-six engine increased from 450 to 515 hp, with a breathtaking top speed of 339 km/h. This Porsche was among the world’s elite sports cars in the 1980s—and it continues to impress today with its performance.
These vehicles stand as symbols of the diversity and innovation of German automotive history—from sporty to elegant, from technical milestones to design icons. The Concours of Elegance Germany 2025 offers an exclusive opportunity to experience these exceptional classics at the spectacular venue of Gut Kaltenbrunn.
